Centre Pieces Quilt Guild, Chapter #238
State College, Pennsylvania

Front Row: C. Louise Fox, Tina Aumiller, Polly Miller, MaryLou Pepe
Back Row: Sara B. Kennedy, Fran MacEachren, Nancy Silverman, Betty Lewis

The Centre Pieces Quilt Guild was formed in 1983 and has increased from 5 members to approximately 170 members during the past 25 years. There are two meetings per month, a second Tuesday evening and a third Wednesday afternoon meeting to accommodate those not driving at night. Our guild activities include:

  • Beginning Quilting Classes offered by member Nancy Silverman
  • a Block Lottery, where members make the selected block, submit it at the evening meeting and a winner is drawn
  • Hearts and Hands, our Community service project group, making "Quilts for Valor" to support our military members and their families.

The Hearts and Hands group has supplied quillows to the local Police Dept. to distribute to children in need, quilts to the Ronald MacDonald House, quilts to newborns at our local hospital, quilts to raffle as fundraisers for the Breast Cancer Society, as well as many other nonprofit organizations, who have asked for our help. Our Hearts and Hands Group is presently assembling red, white and blue quilts for the Quilts of Valor Project.

There are also several friendship & interest groups: The Alley Cat Quilter and The Cover Girls, who meet in member’s homes to work on individual projects, trade ideas and socialize.

Several workshops are offered each year, where professional quilters are invited to come and teach. Guests are invited to give presentations at our monthly meetings. Many of our members demonstrate quilting at the following County events: The Grange Fair, Ag Progress Days, Central PA Festival of the Arts, and National Quilting Day. In 2005 CPQG mounted a regional quilt show and is planning another in 2009. Our website is www.centrepiecesguild.org.

Would you like to exhibit your guild's quilts in the NQA Chapter Gallery?

The NQA Chapter Gallery will highlight an NQA Chapter on our website for a period of 6 weeks.

An NQA Chapter will provide NQA with 8-12 digital photos of quilts selected by the chapter, along with a brief description of each quilt. Each chapter will also provide The Chapter Gallery with a short history of their chapter, which may contain any interesting information that they wish to share about themselves.

NQA will furnish the time slot available for them as well as guidelines on the details required for each quilt photograph.

If your guild is an active NQA Chapter and is interested in appearing on The NQA Chapter Gallery, please contact the NQA office at PO Box 12190, Columbus, OH 43212-0190 or via email at nqaquilts@sbcglobal.net.
